Whitefish, Montana

Whitefish is one of the most scenic, breathtaking areas in America. Whitefish is surrounded on three sides by picturesque mountain peaks that include the Big Mountain Ski and Summer Resort just outside of town. This alpine village offers summer activities including the most scenic gondola ride in the Northwest, hiking, horseback riding, kids day camp, chuckwagon dinners, village and summit dining, and music festivals in the outdoor amphitheater. Whitefish still retains the warm, friendly charm of its bygone railroading days. The refurbished Great Northern Railroad Depot, along with the western-style covered walkways, are the focal point of the downtown area. Nestled in the majestic Rocky Mountains on the shore of Whitefish Lake, this small, friendly Montana town offers the best in four-season recreation. Whitefish Lake is seven miles long and is partially within the city limits.

Whitefish’s Great Northern Brewing Company boasts its own microbrewery, complete with public tasting room. It offers Black Star lager and specialty brews such as Big fog, Black Lager, and Huckleberry Wheat Lager.

Housed in the historic Great Northern Railroad Depot, the Stumptown Museum includes many railroad artifacts as well as community memorabilia and photographs. the Depot was restored by the Historical Society in 1990 to its original 1927 Glacier National Park chalet-like appearance. Great Northern Locomotive #181, one of only seven of its kind ever built, can be seen at the museum.

Enjoy Montana’s only 36-hole golf course, Whitefish Lake Golf Course, with spectacular views of both mountains and lakes. The clubhouse offers a restaurant serving lunch and dinner.

Whitefish Lake City Beach offers a sandy swimming beach and beautifully landscaped public park on the shores of pristine Whitefish Lake. The sandy beach provides picnic tables and barbecues under roofed pavilions, as well as sunbathing, docks, and a public boat launch. Food concessions and water craft rentals are available.

A superb cross-country skiing facility right in town, the Glacier Nordic Center features 15 kilometers of impeccably machine-groomed trails for both skating and classic techniques. The trails wind over rolling hills, along lakes, and through birch forests. Four kilometers are lighted for night skiing.
